Found just on the shores of Lake Bunyonyi and offers a good base for you to fully explore the lake and could be a wonderful stop over on your way to visit the endangered mountain gorillas in the national park of either Uganda or Rwanda. This resort is built with local materials and it’s locally owned and gives vital employment opportunities to the people around the lake. This lake has got no Bilharzia, no crocodiles, and no hippos and because of its altitude, malaria is also very scarce, so this means that you can’t find any friendlier water body on this continent. The name Bunyonyi also means “the place of the little birds” and it really deserves such a beautiful name.
Bunyonyi overland resort is located in Kibale and situated about 410km south west of Kampala, then cross the equator and drive through Masaka and then later Mbarara on a good tarmac road. There is also public transport with use of buses and minivans and these travel this route daily in both directions.
Then from Kabale to Bunyonyi Overland resort, you will go through the town centre as you follow the main road and then turn to your left at the Y junction 0.5 km outside the town of Kisoro. Just at the junction, there is a sign post with Bunyonyi Resort. As you continue 4 km at the top of the hill, you will see a good view of Lake Bunyonyi. Proceed down towards the lake for 3 more kilometres following our yellow sign posts. In case you are to use public means, you can as well take a truck every Monday and Friday for 600 Uganda shillings from the main market. There are also daily scheduled departures from the highland Business centre at 9:30 am and 4:30 pm at a rate of only ushs 5,000 per person on one way. A special hire can also go for 10000 Uganda shillings per person per vehicle.
The accommodation facilities at the resort include; the furnished safari tents, 12 cottages, 2 Family cottages and 4 rooms that are self-contained, also you can rent a mobile tent and self-camping were you can carry your camping items.
